You are welcome to the website of the Union of the Augustinian Friars of Africa (UAFA). We are members of the Order of Saint Augustine, an international Catholic religious community that was juridically founded in 1244. We trace our spiritual roots to St. Augustine of Hippo, a fifth century Bishop and Doctor of the Church.
The Augustinian Circumscriptions in Africa, comprising the Province of Nigeria and the Vicariates of Congo, Kenya, Tanzania and the community in Anaba, with the participation of the Augustinian missions in Togo and South Africa, with the approval of the Prior General of the Order, have organized themselves into a Union with the title “Union of Augustinian Friars of Africa (UAFA)”. This is in line with the recommendation of the Constitutions of the Order (n. 247-248) and the determination of the Ordinary General Chapter (C-10, 2001). This union offers a better knowledge of and understanding among friars in Africa, and ensures a more coordinated approach to the Order's evangelization mission in the region. It encourages collaboration among circumscriptions in the areas of formation, studies and research, publications, mission, providing support to circumscriptions.
