Message of the Prior General

Fraternal Greetings to all the brothers of the Circumscriptions in Africa.

I write to appreciate and encourage you brothers for the great work of faith and witnessing that you are doing in Africa in a clear and courageous manner. The entire Order of Saint Augustine appreciates you for maintaining the Augustinian tradition of living with charity in community life, and in a unique and undivided love for Christ. In this way, you have ensured that the charity of the Church is kept alive and that the salvific paradox of the gospel is not toned down.

In an encyclical published by Pope Francis, titled “We are all brothers”, we find many Augustinian references on “communion” and “Unity in charity”, which are the central points of the spirituality of Saint Augustine and the foundation of the Augustinian life. Reading through this encyclical, it seems, in fact, it is an encyclical written for the Augustinian Family with focus on fraternal correction, forgiveness, respect and service. I, therefore, encourage you brothers on these aspects of our life, to continue to live in charity in community life, clearly manifesting the presence of the Risen Lord. May this also be the wellspring of your service to one another and to God's people.

May Our Mother of Good Counsel and Our Lady of Consolation take care of our wounds, sustain our charity and help us find comfort as we journey together in unity of mind and heart.
